Course Overview

 Ecosystem-Based Urban Adaptation Training Course

Introduction

Ecosystem-Based Urban Adaptation is a strategic approach to building climate-resilient, sustainable, inclusive, and nature-positive cities by using ecosystems and ecosystem services to reduce climate risks. Ecosystem-Based Urban Adaptation Training Course provides practical knowledge on nature-based solutions, urban climate resilience, green infrastructure, blue-green infrastructure, biodiversity conservation, ecosystem restoration, climate risk assessment, urban planning, disaster risk reduction, and sustainable development. Participants will learn how healthy ecosystems can help cities manage flooding, extreme heat, drought, coastal hazards, water insecurity, and other climate-related challenges while improving environmental quality and community well-being.

The course integrates ecosystem-based adaptation with urban planning, climate governance, environmental management, infrastructure investment, and sustainable development strategies. It emphasizes practical approaches for designing, financing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating ecosystem-based interventions. Through international case studies and applied exercises, participants will explore urban forests, wetlands, green corridors, permeable surfaces, mangrove restoration, watershed management, parks, green roofs, and other nature-based interventions that strengthen urban resilience and support long-term climate adaptation.

Course Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
